PRESENTING DR (MRS) MAY IFEOMA NWOYE

Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A), Accounting, George Washington University, Washington DC; Masters in Business and Public Administration (MBPA) in Finance, South Eastern University, Washington DC; Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in (Management), University of Benin, Bursar, University of Benin; Fellow, Certified National Accountants of  Nigeria and a distinguished  Nigerian female  Writer.

Dr (Mrs) May Ifeoma Nwoye was born on February 16, 1956 at Onitsha to Chief Fidelis Agulue and Mrs. Virginia Agulue of Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria.  She had her primary education at the Holy Rosary Primary School, Onitsha and her Secondary Education at Maria Regina Girls High School, Nnewi, Anambra State.    Her tertiary aspirations took her to the United States of America where she obtained the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting at the George Washington University, Washington DC in May 1980.  She was co-founder of the African Students Association of the University. In 1981, she obtained the Masters in Business and Public Administration in Finance from South Eastern University, Washington DC.  This academic effort was capped with a Ph.D Business Administration with emphasis in Management in 1997.
Dr Nwoye returned to Nigeria in 1982 and enlisted in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and was later employed by the University of Benin, where she rose from Senior Accountant in 1986 to her current position as the Bursar. Her main schedule was budgets and capital projects and she made a strong impression with her innovative techniques in the pattern of budgeting which expanded the level of financial aspirations to the University.  She effectively demonstrated her expertise in the funding and management of Nigerian Universities not only in practice but also in theory as evidenced in one of her co-authored book Mobilization and Management of Financial Resources in Nigerian Universities, Benin Social Sciences Series for Africa, 1995.

Dr (Mrs) Nwoye obviously has a mind of great capacity in research and analysis and it was not surprising that three different departments from three faculties sought to associate her with their academic programmes.  These are the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education and Department of Optometry, Faculty of Science.  The courses which she teaches or has taught include Small Business Operations, Advanced Management Theory and Organizational Behavior.  Dr (Mrs) Nwoye's intervention in the academia is by no means a flashbulb event; on the contrary, it is grounded in the best traditions of scholarship and derives strength and legitimacy from her corpus of research publications.  For, in addition to a Ph.D thesis on "Management Practices and Performance Determinants of Public and Private Sector Enterprises in , Nigeria, she has published a 300 page book entitled Small Business Enterprise (1994) . She also has over twenty other book chapters and journal articles in local and international journals in addition to numerous papers presented at conferences, seminars and workshops.
Dr May Nwoye's academic achievements as lecturer, author and researcher do not exhaust her intellectual capabilities.  For her inherent skill as a critical observer of human behavior has also propelled her into literary activities.  Her creative writings started with a novel Endless Search in 1994 and by 1999 she had brought out an impressive collection of novels and short stories which include Tides of Life (1995) Edible Pet (1995) Mirage (1996), Blind Expectations (1997) , Death By Installment (1999). A Child of Destiny (2000), and Fetters and Choices (2003).  She was nominated in 2004 for the NLNG prize for Literature.  Dr Nwoye's literary accomplishments rank her as one of the most promising female creative writers in the country.

Dr (Mrs) Nwoye is no doubt a very busy person but she still finds time to join in the struggle for the general improvement of society.  In particular, she has become a proactive influence in the crusade for women economic emancipation and empowerment.  Her instrument of pressure is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the Intervention Council for Women in Africa of which she is President.  She is also a member of Board of Trustees of the Centre for Population and Environmental Development (CPED). 
Dr May Ifeoma Nwoye has made a reputation for herself as a woman of action and intellect and has been honored with public appointments.  In 1998, she was appointed a member of a special committee set up by the then first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to articulate programmes for the protection of the rights of women and children in Nigeria.  The following year, she served as one of the returning officers for the National Assembly, Governorship and presidential Elections in Edo State.  She was also appointed a member of the Presidential visitation panel to the University of Lagos, in 1999. She is also on the Advisory Board of Who is Who in Business and Professional  Women in the World.

Dr (Mrs) Nwoye is a member of various professional and literary bodies.  She is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Fellow, Certified National Accountants of Nigeria, A Member, Nigerian Academy of Management, An ex- National Vice President, Association of Nigerian Authors.

A woman of great talent who has carved a niche for herself,  as Accountant, Lecturer, Author, Novelist, Poet, Philanthropist, and National Resource Person.    She is a woman of great disposition, serious minded, determined, enterprising, well-organized and well-focussed.  Yet, she is most courteous and cultured. 
She is never frightened by challenges; rather she responds and confronts them with courage and self-confidence.  She is a woman of great disposition, serious minded, determined, enterprising, well-organized and well-focused.  Yet, she is most courteous and cultured.  A devout Catholic, of St.Alberts’ Parish, Dr (Mrs) May Ifeoma Nwoye is a Lady of Knight of St. Mulumba.  A member of Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Immaculate heart of Mary. An Associate member of Legion of Mary. She has held so many positions in the Catholic Women Organizations, the Laity Council, as well as the parish level.  She is currently the Secretary of St Albert’s Parish Council.She has been the editor of St Albert’s bulletin since the late 1980s.  For the past 16 years, she has always prepared and piloted the children for Corpus Christi procession.  She has served so many committees at local and Archdiocesian level. She a member of the Board of the Evangelist newspaper of the Archdioces of Benin City.

Dr Nwoye derives personal satisfaction and fulfillment from showing selfless dedication in the service of others. It is humane nature and sympathy for the less privileged that she is appointed into the Governing council of Project Charrilove: the organization that caters for the physically challenged persons.  Dr Nwoye is a Patron to many students’ organizations and an adviser to Nigerian Federation of Catholic students. She is no doubt a pride to her associates and a role model to the emerging female generation. She is married to Prof. Greg Nwoye and they are blessed with two children.
